Cost of cancer treatment and care:
The diagnosis and operation charges however are prohibitively costly for most of the families all over the world and so also in India. Organ specific cancer treatment costs range from about Rs. 6 lakhs to 20 lakhs. In corporate hospitals the costs could be much more also in the case of non-organic specific cancers. A diagnosis of cancer often leads to catastrophic health expenditures and becomes cost prohibitive. Such expenditures can push entire families below the poverty line and may threaten social stability. Most of the population does not have access to a well organized and well regulated cancer care system. Good chemotherapy options are now available in India. Though the quality of chemotherapy for cancer can be made available to patients within a cost of about Rs. 2.5 lakhs, somehow the actual costs being paid by patients is two to four times higher than this amount.
Even health insurance-based systems fail to address the cost of Cancer Care:
Health insurance penetration on an average is below 3.9% in India. But the figures for elderly population are estimated to be 1.6% only. Thus more than 98% of Senior citizens in India use their own savings or depend on financial help from their children. The second aspect is that many Senior citizens covered under health insurance do not have adequate insurance enough to cover the cost of cancer treatment. The third aspect is that even those who have enough insurance coverage under the sum assured they have to pay up to 30% as co-payment charges apart from paying the cost of consumables.
Why should you consider chemotherapy at NIKISA Hospital?
Having considered all the issues regarding cancer care in India, we at NIKISA have felt that the cost of cancer care especially the chemotherapy component can be actually drastically reduced. In fact chemotherapy medicines of high quality from companies of repute are available at discounted prices. We at NIKISA would like to offer the benefit of available discounts on chemotherapy medicines to patients. We would like to cut on incidental charges to minimum so that IV administered chemotherapy charges are reduced to about Rs. 18,710 – Rs. 23,710 T&C Apply per session for General ward, which will be less than the co-payment charges paid by patients in some big corporate hospitals. Our chemotherapy services are provided by very highly competent oncologists and nursing staff and in no way chemotherapy standards are sacrificed.
